It Seemed Like A Good Idea...

Honeyed Ginger- a blend of Citrus Honey, May Chang and Ginger-they look like Gingery goodness, but don't let it fool you...:-)

I always want Ginger to have it's day in the sun even though it's a wonky eo to say the least. Ginger does not smell like one would think (a harsh reality for sure.) My  mind regularly plays tricks on me-I so want it to smell like the stuff of Gingerbread and Gingersnaps, but alas it never really does. I keep thinking there has to be a blend out there that will make the most of this very earthy "rooty" smelling base note-surely there is? I've been pondering on possibilities for something "summery" and came up with Honeyed Ginger- a blend of delicious citrus honey, lemony May Chang and a drop or two of Ginger.. It's the day after cutting the soap, and well I can only say that "it seemed like a good idea." The blend smells predominately like wonky smelling Ginger- instead of delicious citrus honey melded with the lemon drop goodness of May Chang and a hint of Ginger-Oh well, I tried. Hmmmmm, maybe I'll try one more time and literally add only a drop or two of Ginger....hmmmmm????

I wonder if a touch of cinnamon or clove would help? Vanilla absolute? I did a ginger soap earlier this year, and some folks really liked it. Never did a thing for me though! "Rooty" is the perfect adjective!

I really think that if I cut back to a literal few drops and add a small amount of something like Vanilla Oleoresin or something along that lines I may be able to pull something much nicer off. I'm going to give it a whirl.

I have had similar issues with ginger eo and decided, for me, that I didn't really like the smell in any soap that I made with it. It does something funny to the other eo's. And a little went a LONG way. It sounds good... but didn't work for me. Let us know if you get a good blend with ginger!! xo Jen

I've never tried Ginger and to be honest I'm not sure what it smells like. Sorry it didn't turn out the way you wanted though, that's always a bummer.

Hey guys-good to have you pop by.@ Jen,I hear you.I would so love for there to be a "happy ending" with ginger, but sadly there never is. I revisit Ginger from time to time hoping to give it another chance.

@Elaine-Hey!Good to see you here. Ginger has a very earthy root type scent-it's savory and not at all what I would consider spicy, floral or sweet. Just savory. I really want to find something it plays nicely with, but so far I've not been too successful. Good ideas, but never a good result. Oh well.

So sad when such a gorgeous looking soap smells wonky! Haven't had any luck with ginger myself, and I think Jennifer is onto something there that it does something funny to the other eo's.

@Cynthia-Rose-Yes,it's a bit of a let down for sure. I'm hoping as it settles out more it might be at least tolerable.

I really want Ginger to work out-it has so many redeeming properties.
