Every piece starts out as a blank-A raw unassuming piece of wood
The shape is formed with a variety of tools that basically sculpt the wood
Each piece gets sanded until it's as soft as a baby's bum
Boiled Linseed Oil makes the color and grain come alive
The finished product - this shave brush is made of Black Walnut and boasts a nice Silvertip Badger knot

I loved seeing how these are made!! I would absolutely LOOOOVE to find some shaving brushes made locally... but currently I have only found good quality badger hair brushes in Germany and have to import! xoxo Jen
@Jen,we are making these ourselves. They are very hard to find in a nice quality and all are pricey.I used to think way over priced until we started making them. Most of what you are paying for is the brush-they are expensive if you get the nice ones. They are handmade which means sorting and grading the hair plus a lot of tedious labor to make them. Badger hair is imported from China as in the U.S. Badger can only be killed if they are killing chickens etc. So the brush with all the labor that goes into each brush means they are a bit costly-but if taken care of they should last a lifetime-so at the end of the day one has to think about the longevity of the product.
Wow! They are absolutely gorgeous and the work that goes into each one is well worth it.
@ Anne-Marie and Jen, I realize from my comment it may read like the Badger knots are made by us, and I wanted to take a moment to clarify. We purchase the knots all are imported from China as Badger is protected here. They are handmade, and I can only imagine the tedium of making a shave knot.
We make the handle and assemble the brush on our end.
Also, be on the lookout for some very special shave brushes to come available soon.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
How interesting to see how a wooden handle is made! The workmanship is beautiful.
